Boiling the perfect egg

Soft-Boiled Eggs (runny yolk):

  • Time: 4 to 5 minutes
  • Result: The white is set, but the yolk is still runny and soft.
  • Method:
    1. Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil.
    2. Carefully lower eggs into the water using a spoon.
    3. Start timing when the water returns to a boil.
    4. After 4 to 5 minutes, remove the eggs and immediately cool them under cold running water or in an ice bath.

Medium-Boiled Eggs (slightly creamy yolk):

  • Time: 6 to 7 minutes
  • Result: The yolk is soft but fully set in the middle (slightly creamy).
  • Method:
    1. Follow the same steps as the soft-boiled method.
    2. Boil for 6 to 7 minutes, then cool in ice water.

Hard-Boiled Eggs (firm yolk):

  • Time: 9 to 12 minutes
  • Result: The yolk is fully set and firm.
  • Method:
    1. Place eggs in cold water and bring it to a boil.
    2. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 9 to 12 minutes.
    3. Remove and cool them in ice water or under cold running water.

General Tips:

  • Start with cold water: Always place eggs in cold water and bring it to a boil to avoid cracking.
  • Cool them immediately: Rapid cooling in an ice bath or under cold running water helps stop the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
